While 2019’s ‘Who Do You Trust?’ sometimes played it safe, ‘Ego Trip’ is constantly pushing itself. But time never changes, and he’s always fated to become a brain in jar.What is immediately evident about ‘Ego Trip’ is how inspired it feels. He eventually becomes Old Dexter and forgets about the trip for the third time because he’s senile, until his past selves show up and he does it all over again for the last time, and remembers everything at the very end.Īs for Mandark’s different time versions at the final battle…those could be mere projections, or maybe he does actually remember everything and every time the trip happens he expects something to change. Adult Dexter uses the Neurotomic Protocore to build the utopian future he had envisioned years ago. He eventually emerges and starts fighting against Adult Mandark’s robot soldiers solo, until the other Dexters show up and help him defeat his hated nemesis once and for all. The Negative energy probably begins draining some of his mind and he loses his most recent memories of the trip, so he goes underground to avoid becoming insane like everyone else and becomes Adult Dexter. Teen Dexter returns to his own time and finds out Teen Mandark has already stolen the Neurotomic Protocore and is taking over the world.
As he returns, he goes back to his good old life, and until he grows up there’s a whole lot of failed experiments that could have gone wrong and erased some of his memory (maybe it was when Monkey used his own memory wiping device against him when he found out about his superhero identity), so Kid Dexter grows up, becomes Teen Dexter and goes to work on the company, where his past self shows up and he goes on the trip for the second time.
Kid Dexter is time traveling for the first time, so that’s obvious. As to why Dexter doesn’t remember the trip, well…

With Mandark 1 dead in Timeline 3, Dexter is free to build a great future. Most likely Dexter 2 gets the Neurotomic Protocore back and builds a great future.ĭexter 1 returns home, and sees his past self destroy Robots 3. Old Dexter 3, Dexter 1, and Dexter 2 go home.ĭespite Mandark 2 stealing the Neurotomic Protocore right after Dexter 1 meets Dexter 2 left, he is still killed in Timeline 3. The 4 dexters build the Robots 3 and send them to Timeline 1. Mandark 3 survives and grows up to become Old Mandark 3. DeeDee 1 presses the button which kills Mandark 2, Mandark 1, and Old Mandark 3. Dexter 1, Dexter 2, Dexter 3, and Old Dexter 3 fight Mandark 3, Mandark 2, Mandark 1, and Old Mandark 3. Dexter 3 goes underground, Mandark 3 takes control. Mandark 3 steals the Neurotomic Protocore. Mandark 3 steals Dexter 3 inventions and becomes CEO. Dexter 3 and Mandark 3 were both employed by the Corporation. In this timeline, Dexter 3 was never visited by the Robots and Deedee 3 didn't time travel. Mandark 2 steals the Neurotomic Protocore.ĭexter 1 and Dexter 2 meet Old Dexter 3 and they travel back to earlier in Timeline 3. Dexter 1 meets Dexter 2 and they decide to go into the Far-Timeline 3. Mandark 2 steals Dexter 2 inventions and becomes CEO. This is why I think there were 3 different timelines. 20-something-year-old Dexter didn't remember going into the future and middle-aged Dexter also didn't remember. Last night I thought long and hard about how time travel worked exactly.
